  1. This definitely brings up a good point. A lot of web developers and designers have a “set it and forget it” mentality. They charge a lump sum for their services, and give the customers their website and let them have at it. If you have the time and capability, offering more services to your customers such as a small Google AdWords campaign, personalized traffic reports, site maintenance, and other services you can offer on a monthly basis allows you to charge them recurring fees as long as you ensure there is a value behind it. The ways of charging large upfront design and development costs are a thing of the past. Monthly recurring service charges are more affordable for businesses to budget, and they ensure that you have more involvement with their business.

  2. I totally agree with your point, It’s hard to keep generating new leads always. It’s always good to generate recurring fees from your existing clients, this also helps you save marking costs.

  4. Nice article and good comments. I also agree that maintaing a good relationship with your clients will bring more work and some warm leads.  I work at a Hotel and our services have brought clients back for more.  I am working with a company who have done some SEO for my personal website for the hotel and they have been very good with staying in touch and keeping me up-to-date on new ways to promote better optimization. http://www.dalaigroup.com/company.html

  5. Relationships are all about trust. I like working for companies that value relationships with clients and do not quibble over the details of tasks specified within a contract. Any idiot can work from a contract but building good relationships with clients is something that carries far more value than immediate cash. Without good client relationships you will only be competing on price points and any possibility of future work is random at best.
