  1. I am a Computer Science (Engineering) student from a small city in India.. And for Rachel Nabors, I do wish to say.. Your works and the spirit in which they were done were among the first things that inspired me to code for the web creatively. Thanks! :) And this article would make it very easy for me to make people understand what web-animation is truly meant for.

  2. Thank you, Unmesh! I’m really excited to hear that! I was hoping this article would be the sort of thing someone could send to their manager and help them make the case for paying attention to animation online :) Good luck, and keep on animating!

  3. Thanks for this great article Rachel! I’m a graphic designer who has done some animation with Flash as well as After Effects. Starting to dive into learning more about CSS animations and transitions etc. Your recommendations and information you have provided here will help with giving me a head start for sure.

  4. Thanks for the great article, Rachel! I am sharing this with our team because we are about to embark on an project that uses animation. We’re all very excited about it. I especially appreciate your words of caution which have mirrored my own as our team brainstorms. I love the notion of using animation, but I want us to do so responsibly (and responsively, where possible).

  5. Transitions have endless counterparts in nature. Blink slowly and observe. Go from a lit room out into the dark. Night to day. The tides. Nature is in a continual state of transition; it’s all a matter of timeframe (or timeline, ha). I’d flip it around and say that stasis is a human invention.

  6. When it comes to the graceful degradation part, or “offering an alternative,” might I suggest feature detection over “device sniffing?” http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/detection/

  8. Excellent read, Rachel. You put words to a lot of things I’ve been thinking, subliminally, for a while, and gave me loads more to think about going forward.

  9. Great article-Adobe Flash was the platform for web animation before apple devices did not implement the plugin.  I am curious about SVG animation.. But can we say that with JQuery most CSS animations are possible on all browsers?
