  1. Author Neil Gaiman once said of writing, “Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.” I think this applies to web design and UX as well. Excellent points in your article!

  2. Thanks for this. We are about to set up some user testing on a new site we’re building; this piece has great pointers on what NOT to do. Cheers!

  3. I totally can relate to your analogy. While working on a Chauffeur website booking area at RedElegant We had to change the entire design flow for users of that portal.

The formula which worked with other websites simply didn’t work with its users while we did the user testing.

  4. Completely agree with the bit about that - a user’s simple opinion may not amount to usable data while on a user test.
As a designer we need to design the user test in such a way, that user opinions or feedbacks essentially point towards usability and preferably not about visually pleasing or desirable colors on the UIs. That is something seriously important. Once you’ve figured out the usability, colors and visual comm can come later in priority.

  5. Awesome article, we atsolulab inc. always gives importance to A/B testing before implementing or finalizing any development, just to avoid such mistakes before its too long.

  7. Good article as always, using A/B testing is the best solution for optimizing your UI/UX, we developper/designer can have a biased vision on this since we are used to all kind of navigation/design. We at LRS Formula are using it to optimize landing page like stage de pilotage!

  8. “User research is just as much about the way the research is conducted as it is about the product being researched.” This is a great point that could be further expanded on. It’s important to know about the different user research methods available (one-on-one sessions, interviews, focus groups…), and which one makes the most sense given your goal with a product. http://groupvisual.io/the-value-of-usability-testing/
